Take it Further Challenge for August

I had a great time with the August TIFC. After a slow start, I made this Funky House for this month's theme of "Balancing". I was originally going to follow the color scheme, but it wasn't speaking to me this time. So, I went back and looked to see what the theme was, and that was a very appropriate theme for me, since I feel like I am constantly struggling to find balance in my life with work, family, taking care of the house, and finding some time for myself. Earlier this month, I took a quilting workshop with Donna Radner, and we made these off-balance funky houses. The house with its precariously balanced roof seemed like a perfect symbol for my life at this time! I took one of my favorite houses, added some additional piece work, and this is the result. I will post more about the workshop when I can get a picture of all of my blocks layed out.

Flower Quiltie for Auction

I am going to be teaching a weekend quilting workshop at Jemez for the Thimbleweeds guild in Rio Rancho, NM next month, and they are doing a little quiltie auction, so this is my donation. It is 8 x 12, and had to be a floral theme. I did a woven and embellished background, and then added fabric paper flowers and "stems". I enjoyed working with the small size and theme. I also loved to be able to use the fabric paper in another quiltie! My fabric paper stash is running low, so must be about time to make more.....

Fabric Inchie Charms

I am doing a swap on the Latest Trends in Mixed Media group--an Anything Goes charm swap, so I am using some extra fabric inchies, punched a hole and set an eyelet with my new Crop-o-Dile (I am so excited about it!), and attached a little copper jump ring. Fun!

Haven't Fallen Off the Face of the Earth....

Just jumping in to say that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth! Just been super busy with the end of summer, and swamped with my longarm quilting business, so that has been taking up most of my time lately. I usually do my art stuff at night, after the house is quiet, and I've done a few hours of work, but for the past couple of weeks, my brain has been to fried to do any art! I did get a couple of small projects done last week, and today spent the day doing a wonderful quilting workshop with instructor Donna Radner, so I feel inspired and energized. I will post pics soon, and hopefully will get back into the swing of things!

July RR Quiltie Square

This is the square that I made for the round robin swap on the Mixed Media Art Friends group. The theme for July was Yellow. So I made this little 6.5 x 6.5 inch quilt that was inspired by the sunflowers growing in our back yard. Fun, bright colors!
