Inchie Insanity

These are two sets of "inchies" that I just completed. Inchies are just that: 1 x 1 inch pieces of art. Insane! But so much fun. These are for a swap on the Art Techniques group. I made some extras to keep and incorporate into my own art.

The first set are fabric inchies. I made a base from scraps that I had from making Baby's large African wallhanging quilt. I sewed them onto peltex with decorative thread, and added some more stitching and Razzle Dazzle thread. Then cut them up into 1 inch squares, and zig-zagged the edges. I have since added a little metallic square brad to each, but didn't rephotograph.

The second set are paper inchies. I did them on a fusion base that I wasn't crazy about after I had finished it. But when you cut it apart, it looks totally different. I added some flower sequins and made squiggles or dots with dimensional paint. I love the sequins!

Art Pin Mania!

I began making these Art Pins for an Artist Trading Pin swap on my Surface Design group. I started out with a base of fusion painted papers, paper towels, yarns, threads, dryer sheets, fabric, tissue paper, etc. all glued down in layers. A few of the inchies and papers came from swaps on Art Techniques.

I did a pink one and a blue one a few weeks ago shown in an older post. More recently I made a purple fusion, and a green fusion (which looks much like my blue fusion somehow). Then cut them up and added extra papers, yarn, stitching, beads, wire, etc.

Anyway, I have been absolutely obsessed with making these pins! I couldn' t do anything else. I only needed to make 4 for the swap and I ended up with about 20! Finally, I just sat down and finished them all so that I can move on to something else. The big ones are 1.75 x 2.5 inches, and the small ones are 1.5 x 1.75 inches.

I don't know what I am going to do with all of them--a girl can only wear so many pins. If anyone would like to buy one, let me know. I will sell them for $12 each including shipping. Otherwise, I guess that I have a bunch of Christmas presents ready early!

More Every Day Art

All of these pieces are 6 x 6 inches. The first is on a foundation of my handdyed fabric, with painted burlap and painted watercolor paper. I added buttons and handmade paper beads that are wrapped with wire and beads.

The second piece is a painted paper towel foundation like the ones that I made for my ATCs. I couched yarns and Razzle Dazzle thread, and extra stitching.

The third is an experiment with a faux painting technique that I had been meaning to try for years. Paint the base with medium dusty teal. Let it dry. Paint over it with evergreen acrylic glaze. While wet, I used a rubber tool that has a wavy edge to get the swirl effect. Fun.

Every Day Art Collages

Here are two collages that I just finished for the Every Day Art project., "Landscape 1" and "Landscape 2". I used one of the collages that I had posted on March 31, cropped it into two 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch squares. Then added some machine stitching with variegated thread. I sewed them onto 6 x 6 inch cardstock bases that had been covered in gold metallic tissue paper to create a "frame". I was a little reluctant to cut up my original collage, but I am trying to push my limits and sense of security. I am pleased with the end result. Now debating about cutting up the other one.

Every Day Art Project

These are some pieces that I am doing for my Every Day Art Project for the Raw Art group. The idea is to make a 6 x 6 inch piece of art every day for 31 days. At the end, we will trade pieces with other artists on the project. They are all the same size although they look different in the pictures.

Top: Map 1--Painted paper towel and crayon resist. Machine quilted.

Flower: Collage background with painted and melted Tyvek flower. Stitched.

Windows: Painted paper towel, stamped, machine quilted.

Sunprint 1 and 2: Sunprints on fabric, machine quilted.

Crayon Dots: Metallic crayons on cardstock.

I have a few more done that I need to take pictures of. Stay tuned.
